Trip Information

Mt. Cholatse peak (6440m.) is one of the beautiful peaks surrounded by snow-capped mountains in the Everest region of Nepal.
Climbing Cholatse is an extra adventure with narrow snowy, ice ridge and steep rocky face. It lies in the southeast from Gokyo valley.
Cholatse peak is known for technical and hardest peak climbing in the comparison of the many other mountain peaks in Nepal. Because of its hardness, the climber should have previous mountaineering experience, knowledge, as well as physically strong and fit.
The trek goes through Khumbu valley with one high pass (Renjo- la) which makes easier for climbing, where the trail offers us amazing landscape and dramatic view of the Khumbu region, it continues towards the Cholatse base camp.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1. Arrivals in Kathmandu.
Day 2. Pick up from International Airport and transfer to hotel.
Day 3. Flight to Lukla(2850m) and trek to Phakding (2610m)
We go to Kathmandu domestic airport to take a nice, short flight to Lukla, Tenzing Hillary airport, the start point for the trek to EBC. We will see many beautiful mountain ranges such as Langtang and Jugal ranges, then the Rolwaling Himal and Mt. Gaurisankar before getting to see the first view of Mt. Everest on the flight. We make a short stop in Lukla to sort out bags etc before setting off. It is a nice short walk for the day 3hrs walk through low rhododendron forest, small villages, and farms. We will pass through many and small Mani Stone, Chhortens and prayer wheels which are built to after good luck for all the living beings. We will set to Phakding for lunch and we have all afternoon to take a food rest or look around the Phakding tour which lies along with the banks of Dudh Koshi River.
Day 4. Trek to Namche (3440m.) 6hrs walk.
After early breakfast at the lodge, we trek to Namche following with the bank of Dudh Koshi River we will get a good view of Thamserku peak 6623m. On the way and we go pass small villages and form walking along a path with many ups and downs, crossing a stream we will reach to a village called Monjo at 2840m, gaining 230m more from Phakding and we stop for lunch here. After lunch, we go through the National park entrance gate where we pay our N.P. entrance fees. We carry on walking on the bank of Dudh Koshi river for 45 minutes to an hour, then we start of ascending uphill towards Namche, start with crossing big and tallest suspension bridge on Khumbu valley. While ascending uphill we reach to rest point called Top Dada where you will get the first view of Mt. Everest, from here you ascend grand valley up to Namche Bazar. By we get to Namche we will gain the altitude proximately 800m.
Day 5. Namche Excursion.
It is an acclimatization day So we’ll take a gentle walk to gain a little height and have a free afternoon. Your guide/ leader will take you to a couple of wonderful viewpoints to see the spectacular view of Lhotse, Nuptse, Everest, Amadablam etc. You should also be able to see the monastery at Tengboche and the trails to Everest you can also visit to couple villages of Khumjung and Khunde with their health post, school started by Sir Edmund Hilary.
After lunch, you are free to go around Namche Bazar where you can see lots of different shops and it’s a good place to get a souvenir. You will see the trader with a big group of Yak. You can also visit Namche Monastery. The monastery is about 80years old and has beautiful Thanka Painting of Tibetan deities. You can also visit the Sherpa museum lies just above the Namche town. There can see the photo gallery of many famous mountaineers and record holders’ photos and the Sherpa museum shows all the things and utensils use in Sherpa houses in the old days. Namche is the biggest town or market place in Khumbu region where people from different places come to trade their goods.
Day 6. Namche to Thame (3820m.) 4hrs altitude gain about 400m.
The trails lead toward the northwest of Namche by the Namche monastery, a gentle slope at the beginning and all the flat until the Thame village by the pine trees and rhododendron forest. Then climb uphill about an hour after the Thame again flat trail until the Bhote Koshi river, which follows from the Nangpa valley. Then you will get there at Thame village where is very famous Sherpa Everest Summiteer was born in the world also known as very old Sherpa village.
Day 7. Thame to Lumde (4368m.)
It is from about 4:30hrs. and altitude gain about 500m. Trek pass through the upper Thame along the Bhote Koshi river on flat and slope steeply somewhere, another old Sherpa village Tarnga and Marlung. Then trails separate to the east of Bhote Koshi river and climb again steep slope until the Lumde.
Day 8. Lumde to Gokyo (4789m.) 6hrs. via Ren-Jo pass (5360m.) ascend (1000m.)
That day would be the little hard because gaining the altitude rapidly. Trails lead steep slope all the way to Ren-jo pass and from the pass we able to see the view of most of the mountains in Everest region Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m.), Makalu (8456), Cho Oyo (8188m) including many 7000m, 6000m. peaks and then from the pass descend down on the scree rock, boulders and sandy part to the Gokyo by the Dudh Pokhari also called third Lake of Gokyo valley.
Day 9. Gokyo to Macharmo (4470m.) descend(300m.)
Trek by the left of Dudh Pokhari, Tabuche Tsho and the first lake of Gokyo all the way down to Macharmo and stay overnight there.
Day 10. Rest day at Macharmo and checking gears, food, and everything.
Day 11. Macharmo to Cholatse Base camp 4hrs.
Day 12. Contingency day for weather.
Day 13. High Camp
Day 14. Summit Back to Base Camp
Day 15. Macharmo/ Dole
Day 16. Namache
Day 17. Lukla
